Colts and Saints Advance to the Super Bowl: NFL Conference Championship Recap

Colts 30, Jets 17
Indianapolis looked like it was collapsing in the first half. The Jets jumped on them 17-6 including a big play where Braylon Edwards actually caught the ball! Shocking! It must have stunned the Colts who let him run with the ball into the endzone. The Jets were looking good and then Peyton Manning decided he was going to go to the Super Bowl. He got his team right back in the game with a drive right before the half to pull them within four points at 17-13. The second half was all Colts. They figured how how they were going to beat the Jets and stuck with that three wide receiver look that had been successful. The Jets offense started to sputter and an injury to Shonn Green didn’t help. The Colts pulled away in the fourth to secure a spot in the Super Bowl.

Saints 31, Vikings 28 (OT)
This was a great back and forth game. The Vikings should have won except for the numerous times they gave the ball back to the Saints. Minnesota couldn’t hold the ball and it hurt ‘em. They outgained the Saints by over 200 yards and their defense played very well in controlling the high powered Saints attack. The Saints made plays on defense to take it away and were there to intercept Favre with only seconds remaining preventing a possible game winning field goal. The game then went to OT where the Saints won the toss. They returned it to the 39 yard line and moved into range for a 40 yard Garrett Harley field goal. New Orleans can book their reservations in Miami. They’re headed to their first Super Bowl ever. A devastating loss for Minnesota. They know they should have won but let the ball literally slip away from themselves…time after time.

So it’s Peyton Manning vs. Drew Brees. Colts vs. Saints in Super Bowl 44 in Miami now less than two weeks away. Check back for more on the Super Bowl from Macho Rhino in the next couple of weeks.
