We’re 10 days in to 2010 and if you didn’t set resolutions or are already off track with those you set on New Year’s Day. It’s time to assess your life. Do you like what’s going on or do changes need to be made? Here are 10 things you need to get done in 2010. Add these goals to your list of things to accomplish in 2010. Ladies, this list isn’t just for the guys (but mainly is), you can use it too.
1. Register to vote and then go vote – This fall Americans will head to the polls and make a lot of important decisions. Let your voice be heard. If you don’t vote you have no voice. With no voice, your complaints can’t be heard. Visit www.rockthevote.com to register. It only takes a few minutes. If you’ve moved recently you can also update your registration so you can vote at your new location also.
2. Schedule in 15 minutes in a day where you turn off the phone/computer and forget about the hectic pace of your life. Just let your mind wander and relax. This will greatly improve your life if you can get some solitude everyday to refocus on the important things and allow yourself to calm down.
3. Don’t apologize for being yourself – If you’re being honest and true to yourself there’s no need to apologize if you offend someone. Just because your opinion differs than their’s doesn’t mean you’re automatically wrong!
4. Cut out those women who you’ve been chasing but rarely seem to give you the time of day – Guys, we’ve all been there. Persued a girl only to have to continually keep chasing her. Sometimes we catch her or sometime she keeps pushing us away. Just let her go and free yourself so you won’t miss someone new who might be right around the corner. Don’t waste your time on her when someone better might be headed your direction.
5. Expand your network – You can never know too many people. Reconnect with people you haven’t spoken to in awhile. You never know when you might need someone so the more people you know, the better off you’ll be. Just be polite and it’s so easy to stay in touch with people these days, take advantage of the opportunity to add people to your network.
6. Don’t sweat the small stuff - I’m sure you’ve probably heard this before but stop worrying about little things that a week or month or year from now won’t matter. Don’t let a minor bump in the road drag you down. Do you really need to stress over it? When you start to stress, ask yourself is it really worth it? Will I care a month from now? Focus on the big picture.
7. Learn something new – Pick something you have a curiosity about and explore it. Go read a book about it or find some websites that cover it. It never hurts to have something new to talk to people about.
8. Don’t be afraid to take a chance - If there’s something you’ve always wanted to do or get, go for it! Start taking steps toward that goal. Weigh the risks, is not doing it going to be better than going for it? Chances are if the risk pays off, it’ll far exceed any negative consequences that could have come from it so do it!
9. Stop being so self-centered and egocentric - Think about other people once in awhile. You’re not always the top priority. Show courtesy and respect to other people. Put a little good karma in the bank, you’ll need it later.
10. Volunteer - This kind of goes with #9. Do good for other people. You’ll be surprised at the feeling you’ll get from helping others. The smiles and gratitude you’ll get from those who truly appreciate what you’ve done will last with you. Even if it’s just once a month for a couple hours, find something you think you’d enjoy and volunteer. Make a difference.
I hope you have a Macho 2010 and I think if you follow these tips, your life on the eve of 2011 will look better to you than the eve of 2010. Happy New Year!
